The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield is launching a new emergency and municipal information notification system. Town residents will be able to select which notifications they would like to receive. Notifications for emergencies can be received as a phone call with recorded message, a text, an email or via TDD/TTY device. Municipal information notifications such as public notices, will be sent by email only.
IMPORTANT: Information from the previous emergency alerting system will not be carried over to the new system. Those previously registered with the old system (Sentinel Emergency Alerts) will need to register with the new system (CodeRED by OnSolve) to continue receiving emergency notifications.
Troy Gautreau, Fire Chief and Director of the Grand Bay-Westfield Emergency Measures Organization, cautioned that such systems are only as good as the database supporting them. “It is critical that residents take the few moments to register for alerts,” says Gautreau.
Mayor Brittany Merrifield says of the new system “In the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield the safety of residents is a top priority, and as technology advances our community strives to advance communicating information to our residents. This is especially important in the case of an emergency. The bonus with this system is that it will also support our commitment to improving overall communications with our residents, such as public notices.”
Residents can register by visiting www.grandbaywestfield.ca and selecting the “Sign up for Emergency Alerts” button at the top of the page. Users will be provided two options for registering – managed account or guest. Registering a managed account is the recommended option as it will allow the user to log in any time and change contact information or notification preferences. Registering a guest account can be helpful for those who do not have regular access to email or the internet and simply wish to add a phone number.
Residents needing assistance in signing up can call the Town office at (506)738-6400.
