Serve Your Town

Town Council is supported by a number of Committees of Council and participates in decision-making in the Greater Saint John Region through various Boards, Commissions and Committees. Residents are invited to participate in the local decision-making process and assist with shaping the future of our community by offering to serve on Town Committees or serve as Town representatives on Regional Boards, Commissions and Committees.

Town Committees

Age-Friendly Committee
The Grand Bay-Westfield Age-Friendly Committee is an Advisory Committee of Council which makes recommendations on matters regarding policies and services related to the physical and social needs of those who are aging in our community. The Committee will implement and promote Age-Friendly initiatives that align with the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield Age-Friendly Action Plan. The Committee meets regularly on the first Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Community Centrum.

Community Grant Committee
Mandate
  1. The Community Grant Committee is a standing committee of the Town of Grand Bay – Westfield.
  2. The mandate is to solicit community grant applications and to review and recommend grant recipients in accordance with the conditions in the Community Grant Programs application document.
Responsibilities

Regularly review the Community Grant policies and, when necessary, recommend changes.

Ensure an equitable, transparent and responsive method to evaluate grant applications.

Conduct a public solicitation of grant applicants from a broad range of groups within the geographic area of the Town of Grant Bay – Westfield.

Using the approved evaluation method, consider all grant applications which qualify under the Community Grants Program criteria.

Recommend to the Town Council the grants to be made to qualified applicants and the amount of each grant.

    1. Both members at-large shall be appointed by the Chair for a minimum of 6 months that will cover 1 grant application period and a maximum of 2 years which shall cover 4 consecutive grant application periods
  3. Staff
    1. The CAO or acting CAO shall be Ex-officio
Quorum
  1. A simple majority shall constitute a quorum of the Community Grants Committee.
Community Vitality Committee

The purpose of the Committee is to: Increase social interactions for individuals and families; Build community pride; Develop welcoming experiences to support inclusive communities; and support truth and reconciliation with Indigenous communities. Volunteers may participate for one event or on an ongoing basis. Annual activities include, and not limited to: Family Day, Volunteer Appreciation, Bike Rodeo, Canada Day, New Brunswick Day, Fall Photo Scene, Fall Fest, Trail of Terror (A haunted walk for all ages), Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Photo Scene.

Emergency Management Organization (EMO)

The Grand Bay-Westfield Emergency Management Organization (EMO) is responsible for emergency planning in the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield. EMO deals with preparedness, damage mitigation, response, and recovery in the case of a major disaster. The EMO also promotes emergency preparedness for all residents, organizations, and businesses. Town EMO is regularly looking for residents who are at least 18 years of age who are available for regular monthly meetings on the 3rd Tuesday evening of each month from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and who can be available to work in the Emergency Management Operations Centre when required. Interested residents will have a strong desire to work behind the scenes to provide support to frontline responding agencies. Training will be provided.

Planning Advisory Committee (PAC)

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield Planning Advisory Committee is comprised of not less than five (5) members and not more than seven (7) members as established by Town By-law.  The Committee meets regularly on the first Monday of each month for a Public Meeting at 7:30 pm.  Regular attendance at Committee meetings is essential.  Committee members are appointed by resolution of Town Council for three year terms with the original appointments made so that as nearly as possible the term of office of one-third of the members expires each year.

Members are remunerated on an honorarium basis at a rate of $75.00 per meeting, subject to attendance.  Remuneration is provided in one annual payment during the month of December.  Committee members must hold the following qualifications:

  1. be qualified to vote under the Municipalities Act
  2. be a resident of the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield.

The powers and duties of the Planning Advisory Committee are:

  1. those accruing under the provisions of the Community Planning Act;
  2. to advise and make recommendations to the Council on matters relating to Community Planning;
  3. to give its views to the Council on any by-law proposed to be enacted under the Community Planning Act whether or not such views have been requested in accordance with section 110 of the said Act;
  4. to exercise such powers and perform such duties relating to Community Planning as are given to it by the Community Planning Act.

There are varying durations of terms and the number of eligible terms is dependent on by-laws, agreements, or legislation. Throughout the year, various openings may occur with positions available to the residents with appointments made by Town Council.
