Town encourages residents to prepare for heavy rainfall and strong winds (December 23-24, 2022)

Published: December 23, 2022 @ 8:00 a.m.

Environment Canada has issued rainfall and wind warnings for our area. These are in effect from Friday, December 23 until Saturday, December 24. For details, visit here.

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield including its Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) will continue to monitor forecasts.

The Town’s Works Department crews have been monitoring main catch basins and ensuring signage and barricades are ready.

How residents can help

To help prevent localized flooding, if able, keep the catch basins adjacent to properties free from debris as well as ice and snow in the winter.

With a possibility of power outages, The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) reminds residents to have their 72-hour emergency kits ready. For details, visit here.

With a wind warning in effect, the Town’s EMO also reminds residents to secure any loose items located outdoors.

Motorists are reminded to:

Allow for extra travel time;
Obey any road closures and signage (do not drive around barricades);
Avoid driving through areas covered in water;
Ensure headlights are on; and
Keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
