May 8, 2026: Construction underway on new Grand Bay-Westfield Public Works Garage
The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield remains committed to its Strategic Priority of Infrastructure and Climate Adaptation.
The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield is moving forward with construction of a new Public Works Garage located at 375 Highland Road, marking a significant investment in municipal infrastructure and long-term service delivery.
The development of a new Public Works Garage has been identified as a municipal requirement since the early 2000s, as the existing facility located on River Valley Drive no longer meets operational requirements.
The project was approved by Council as part of the 2024 Capital Budget and will provide a modern and efficient workspace for the Town’s Public Works Department, strengthen operational capabilities, and provide adequate storage for the Town’s fleet and equipment including snow and ice control operations.
With an overall budget of approximately $6.6 million, supported by approved capital borrowing and long‑term financial planning, the project brings together a strong team of professionals. Following a competitive tendering process, construction was awarded to Mapleton Construction Ltd., alongside Boyd R. Algee Architect Ltd. and Mathers Project Management Consulting Inc., who will support the project’s design and delivery.
“This project represents a significant investment in the long-term sustainability of our operations. Our Public Works team is fundamental to the safe and efficient delivery of municipal services. This new facility will ensure they are equipped to serve our community safely, efficiently, and effectively for many years to come” – Mayor Brittany Merrifield
