The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield wishes to inform residents that it will be performing sanitary sewer system video inspection and high pressure sewer main cleaning. Work will take place during the months of October and November 2021,
The video equipment is used to identify deficiencies in the sewer system, as well as provide a means to evaluate the effectiveness of various maintenance procedures. This is critical in the detection and location of needed repairs. High pressure flushing equipment is used to jet clean the sewer line with high-pressure water. The debris is then vacuumed from the manhole with a high-powered vacuum hose. This annual work is part of a proactive maintenance program for the prevention of sewer backups.
Using high pressure flushing equipment can cause the water in your sinks and toilets to either be sucked down the drain or be splashed out. This is especially the case when residential sewer laterals are not equipped with a Backwater Valve. If you see or hear this type of equipment operating in your area, please place the plugs in all sinks and close all toilet seat covers. This may help keep water from splashing out of the fixtures.
The Town apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. For more information, questions or concerns, please call the Works Commissioner, Bruce Gault, at 738-6422.
