The annual vegetation control program will be carried out on NB Southern Railway (NBSR) rail lines within South West New Brunswick. Please be advised that Highland Vegetation Management Inc. will be conducting ground herbicide application to control undesirable vegetation growth on NSBR railway lines. The program is necessary to eliminate weeds and brush and other undesirable vegetation, which constitute a hazard to the public and NBSR employees. The program will meet Transport Canada Guidelines, and allow NBSR to maintain a safe and reliable track infrastructure.
All application will be completed by specially trained and certified / qualified operators in conformance with current Federal and Provincial Regulations. In particular, work in all areas will be conducted with approved permits from the New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government and regulated under the authority of the Pesticides Control Act and Regulations.
The product(s) that will be used are: 1 ) Roundup Weathermax (PCP # 27487) containing the active ingredient “Glyphosate” used as a non-selective, broad spectrum systemic herbicide that actively binds to soil particles and is rapidly and completely biodegraded into natural products by microorganisms in soil. 2) Arsenal Powerline (PCP # 30203) containing the active ingredient “Imazapyr”, a non-selective, broad spectrum, systemic herbicide with residual activity and is slowly decomposed by soil organisms over a period of 3 to 6 months. 3) Telar (PCP # 30036 containing the active ingredients “Chlorsulfuron” a selective, systemic herbicide with residual activity for control of broad leaf weeds and is slowly decomposed by soil organisms over a period of 3 to 6 months.
Our Company will meet or exceed all buffer zone requirements with respect to habitation, aquatic, and municipal water supply setbacks.
This program will take place from May 25, 2025 to September 15, 2025 and will cover the NB Southern Railway line only at or near certain locations: Saint John, St Stephen, Grand Bay-Westfield, Fredericton Junction, Tracy, and McAdam.
