Grand Bay-Westfield Municipal Plan and Zoning By-laws Survey

Published: February 3, 2023 @ 3:30 p.m.

Have your say and help shape the future of land use and development in Grand Bay-Westfield. Residents are encouraged to complete a survey and attend an Open House – see details below.

Survey deadline is March 6, 2023

On January 1, 2023, as part of the provincial local governance reform process, the new local government of Grand Bay-Westfield was formed. It includes the former Town of Grand Bay-Westfield (Ward 1) and a portion of the former Local Service District of Westfield West focused on areas along and off Brittain Road and Campbell Road (Ward 2).

As a result of local governance reform, Grand Bay-Westfield will require amendments to its Municipal Plan and Zoning By-laws, which will apply to both Wards.

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield is currently collecting feedback from residents to determine what should be prioritized in the amended Municipal Plan and Zoning By-laws.

These documents directly impact how your community is shaped by determining what types of developments can go where, what natural resources should be protected, and where essential services are needed. They can be used to address issues like food insecurity and the need for affordable housing, and they may impact what you are permitted to do with your property. Grand Bay-Westfield’s Municipal Plan and Zoning By-laws will impact the future of the municipality as well as your day-to-day life, which is why we want to hear from you!

About Municipal Plan and Zoning By-laws

A Municipal Plan is a document which provides a long-term vision for how future growth and development will occur in a municipality, and provides policies and tools to help guide this vision.

A Zoning By-law is a document which implements the vision of the Municipal Plan by regulating the use of land, as well as the character, location and size of buildings and new development in a municipality.

Grand Bay-Westfield’s Municipal Plan and Zoning By-laws amendment process provides an opportunity for residents to determine the vision for the community, and how this vision should be guided.
