Grand Bay-Westfield Fire-Rescue Department expands services to include water rescue

Published: June 11, 2025 @ 10:00 a.m.

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield remains committed to its Strategic Priority of Organizational Capacity.

The Grand Bay-Westfield Fire-Rescue Department has expanded its services to include water rescue.

Provision of this new service is made possible with the purchase of a 2025 Highfield Patrol 600 Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) and associated rescue equipment. This purchase was made as part of the 2025 General Capital Budget, approved by Town Council on November 25, 2024.

This new service now allows the Department to meet the full provisions of the Fire-Rescue Department’s Level of Service Policy. The Policy may be viewed here.

Community members can expect to see the new boat in the water regularly as Firefighters continue their training. On some occasions, this training will be conducted jointly with other Fire Departments and the Canadian Coast Guard.
