Communications Summer Student (Communications Department)

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield Communications Department is currently seeking one (1) summer student.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, this summer term position will provide both practical experience and professional development, setting you up for a successful career in corporate communications.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Communications Manager in daily activities and assigned projects;
Partner directly with various stakeholders to develop internal communications campaigns, ensuring the content and creative is consistent and compelling;
Support social media campaigns and community management;
Assist with website content, performance and management;
Assist in creating materials for presentations;
Assist in ad creation for print and digital/social media;
Assist in photography and videography;
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Post-secondary education in Public Relations/Communications/Journalism/Marketing/Commerce/Digital Media.

Strong communicator and collaborator;
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word & Excel) , as well as Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. Photoshop and InDesign);
Strong customer service skills;
Positive, proactive, very detailed oriented and driven to succeed;
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
Problem analysis and solving skills;
Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills;
Photography/videography capture and editing skills;

Salary: $18.90
Hours: 35 hours/week

Records Management (Summer Student: Office of the CAO)

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield Office of the Chief Administrative Officer is currently seeking one (1) summer student.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Executive Assistant/Assistant Clerk, assisting with the implementation and maintenance of the Town’s Document Management System. This includes the scanning of historical and current documents onto an electronic database. The position will play an important role in preparing physical records for digitization and support this project by tracking progress.

Key Responsibilities

Assist Clerk’s staff with the implementation and maintenance of the Town’s Document Management System;
Assist the Clerk’s office in researching information required to update existing policies/By-laws;
Assist with general administrative duties within the Clerk’s Department when necessary;
Promotes a high standard of customer service to the public as well as to all internal customers;
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Post-secondary education in records and/or information management, library sciences, political science, public administration, or a closely related field.

Experience with categorizing, retrieving and refiling records as well as organizing their contents;
Knowledge of document management is an asset;
Demonstrated computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, PowerPoint);
Demonstrated customer service excellence;
Superior organizational and problem-solving skills with an excellent attention to detail;
Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, superior interpersonal skills:
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Parks Supervisor (Summer Student: Parks and Recreation Department)

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield is currently seeking one (1) summer student as a Parks Supervisor.

Applicants may require occasional access to a personal vehicle. Vehicle usage will be reimbursed at 52 cents per kilometer, paid monthly.

Key Responsibilities

Parks and facility monitoring & maintenance of Town facilities, including:
Daily review of all Town facilities including Brundage Point River Centre, Unity Park, Veterans Peace Park, Ball Fields, Tennis Courts, Walking Trail, Parks and Playgrounds;
Weekly mowing, maintenance and cleaning of Town-owned green space;
Some light sweeping, mopping, dusting and cleaning of Community Centres may be required;
Ensuring facility lawns are free of litter and debris;
Assisting with rental events and ensuring facilities are operational;
Back-up assistance for official Town event and program delivery;
Other duties as assigned.

Outgoing and friendly personality;
Ability to work well with all types of personalities;
Good organizational and time management skills; and
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education: Grade 12 or higher.

Salary: $16.54

Recreation Supervisors (Summer Students: Parks and Recreation Department)

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield is currently seeking summer students as Recreation Supervisors.

Key Responsibilities

Opening and closing the Brundage Point River Centre as key and alarm code holder;
Greeting visitors to the Brundage Point River Centre;
Assist with tourism inquiries and directions;
Supervising rental events and ensuring facilities are operational;
Greeting and assisting event organizers;
Assist official Town event and program delivery;

Engineering Assistant (Summer Student: Public Works Department)

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield is currently seeking one (1) summer student, an Engineering Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare schedule and routing for efficient asset inspections;
Edit ArcGIS mapping to show location of new assets;
Add new assets to asset management software (Cititech);
Participate in the preparation and planning of various projects;
Aid in the preparation of budget estimates;
Establish and maintain appropriate records and files;
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum first (1st) year University, preference for Civil Engineering Degree Program.

Applicants require daily access to a vehicle for field inspections. Vehicle usage will be reimbursed at 52 cents per kilometer, paid monthly;
Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and has access to an email account;
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence;
Supply own steel toe work boots.

Salary:
 $18.90/hour
Hours: 35 hours/week 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (including special events such as Canada Day, as required)
Dates: Approximately first week of May until last week of August (Subject to availability)

Labourers (Summer Students: Public Works Department)

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield is currently seeking summer students as Labourers in our Public Works Department.

Key Responsibilities of the crew

Parks and facility monitoring & maintenance of Town facilities, including;

Operate small power tools, lawn mowers (ride-on and push);
Stand for long durations;

Work from written instructions:
Work weekends and holidays.

Supply own steel toe work boots.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Valid Traffic Control Person certificate (preferred, not required); and
Valid First Aid Training and CPR training.

Education: Grade 12 or higher.
