Town By-law No. GG-008, every Owner of a Dog that is six (6) months old or older shall obtain a Town issued license.  The license shall be in effect for a period of three (3) years from the date in which the license was purchased.

Dog licenses may be purchased by visiting the Grand Bay-Westfield Town Office:

Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays)

or by contacting the Town Office at (506) 738-6400 or Animal Control Officer at (506) 653-1958.

NOTE: Proof of vaccination for dogs required.

For dog lovers of our Town, the Grand Bay-Westfield Dog Park is a one-acre fenced area located at 319 Highland Road, Grand Bay-Westfield, where you can take your dog to play.

There is a small dog area for dogs under 30 lbs and a large dog area for dogs over 30 lbs. The Dog Park rules are posted at the entrance. Dog owners/handlers are legally responsible for their dogs and any injuries caused by their dogs.

Use of the Park is at your own risk.

The Grand Bay-Westfield Dog Park is open dawn to dusk, unless otherwise posted or advertised.

Grand Bay-Westfield Dog Park Rules

Dog owners/handlers are liable for the behaviour, damage, or injury inflicted by their dogs. Owners/handlers are legally and financially responsible for their dogs’ behaviour. The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield accepts no liability or responsibility for injuries occurring in the Dog Park.

• Handlers MUST “Scoop the Poop”.
• No children under 12 years of age permitted inside fenced area unless supervised by an adult.
• Handlers MUST remove aggressive dogs immediately!
• Any dog with a known history of dangerous behaviour is prohibited.
• Handlers MUST be inside fenced area with their dogs at all times.
• Please leash and unleash in double gated area.
• All dogs must wear a collar with ID.
• No pinch, pronged, spiked, or shock collars allowed.
• Limit of 2 dogs per handler.
• No female dogs in heat. No dogs under 4 months of age.
• Eating and smoking is prohibited inside the fenced area.
• Digging dogs must be stopped and holes filled by handler.
• Small dogs under 30 lbs in the Small Dog Area.
• Large dogs over 30 lbs in the Large Dog Area.
• The Dog Park is open dawn to dusk, unless otherwise posted or advertised.

For winter months, Town Works Department crews will plow the parking lot only, and that is subject to reasonable weather conditions. Severe weather conditions may result in long delays.

All dog owners are reminded to pick-up their dog’s waste at all times and properly dispose of it. Pet waste left to decay on sidewalks, lawns, or common areas is unsanitary, unsightly, and unsafe. Rain and melting snow can wash waste into storm drains, which flow directly into streams or ponds and cause a host of water quality problems.  It is also unhealthy for people and the environment. Pet waste can contain bacteria and parasites that severely sicken people, pets and wildlife.

Picking up after your pet is as simple as bringing a dog waste disposal bag on your next pet walk, and then disposing of it properly.

Not picking-up after your pet is a violation of our Town By-law.

Did you know? If required, pet waste bags are located at the Brundage Point River Centre, along the walking trail and at the Town’s Big Paw Little Paw Dog Park. As supplies are available.

Reminder: The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield Animal Control By-Law No. GG-008 states:
(a) The Owner or any other person having care or control of an Animal, including, in respect of a Dog, its Keeper, shall at no time allow the Animal to run at large.
(b) When not on the Owner’s or, in respect of a Dog, its Keeper’s, private property, Animals shall be on a leash at all times.
(c) The Animal will be considered to be at large when:
(i) the Animal is beyond the boundaries of the land occupied by the Owner, its Keeper or any other person without a leash;
(ii) beyond the boundaries of any lands where it may be with the permission of the Owner, its Keeper or occupant of the said land not securely confined within an enclosure; or
(iii) not securely fastened or leashed, thereby enabling it to roam at will.
