The Grand Bay-Westfield annual street sweeping program is underway.
The portions being swept by both the contractor and the Town’s Public Works Department should be completed by May 24, 2024.
Residents are advised of the following:
Beginning this year, the street sweeping program will be completed by both the Town’s Public Works Department as well as the contractor;
All hard-surfaced municipal streets will be swept;
The Town’s Public Works Department will be working Monday to Friday (during business hours);
The contractor will be working evenings;
The contractor will not be working on Sundays;
The contractor and Public Works Department, will on occasion leave a street to dump sand, however, they will return to complete the street; and
The contractor and Public Works Department, are responsible to provide dust control while operating street sweeping equipment.
How residents can assist:
Please do not sweep road sand into piles and leave piles on the road as they create a dangerous hazard to motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists;
Please do not park on the roadway when street sweeping is in progress. If a parked vehicle impedes the street sweeper, the vehicle may be towed away at the owner’s expense;
Please try not to place garbage bags on the paved roadway on collection days, as it will impede street sweeping; and
Please do not sweep sand into ditches as it contributes to water drainage problems.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns that the work completed on your street is not satisfactory, please contact the Town’s Public Works Department below.
The annual street sweeping program applies to Ward 1 roads. Ward 2 roads continue to be maintained by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure.
