Westfield & District Recreation Association Inc.

Who we are

Our Association was incorporated in 2010 under the Companies Act as a not for profit association to provide recreation opportunities to the residents of what was formerly the Local Service District of Westfield West (now Town of Grand Bay-Westfield Ward 2). The Association is run for the benefit of the community by a volunteer board of seven (7) directors who each serye a term of three (3) years. Two (2) directors are elected each year by the members in attendance at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).  Membership is open, free of charge, to anyone who supports the aims of the association and who signs the membership register. All members can vote at the AGM.

Your present volunteer Board consists of President Debbie Childs-McCluskey, Vice President Annie Dunn, Secretary Stacey Doyle, Treasurer Samantha Weldon, Amber LeBlanc, Helene Dixon and our Youth Advocate, Molly Hawkes.

The Board contracts with Sana Nearing to coordinate activities and she does an excellent job (and has done so for many, many years). Funding is provided each year by the Province and the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield under strict guidelines and annual reports are filed with the Province and the Town. Financial statements are provided to all members at the AGM. The Association leases three properties at four corners (Keatings Corner) on a 20-year lease at $1 per year. Many volunteers contribute time and material throughout the year to make our community a better place to live and play.

What we do

The Directors meet monthly to explore and support community initiatives that enhance the recreation opportunities in Ward 2. The Association has supported and provided swimming lessons in the summers for local children. The Association has built and maintained an outdoor rink, located at four corners during the winter months. They have also provided equipment and space for pickleball which is a game similar to tennis. ln the past they have provided equipment for an archery program and have held the babysitters course for our youth at the Nerepis Church. They support any initiative or program that provides recreation opportunities for our residents. They support non-profit adult sports groups held at Westfield and RVMS. The sports groups are basketball, pickleball and badminton. They provide an account to residents annually at its Annual General Meeting typically held in December.
