National Volunteer Week is April 16-22, 2023

The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield extends appreciation to all of the volunteers in our community for their dedication, selflessness, compassion and service throughout the year. Many of the programs, organizations, committees and events that we are fortunate enough to have in our community, are due to the hard work of volunteers.

On April 20, 2023, the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield hosted a Volunteer Celebration at the Community Centrum, in recognition of community volunteers. Members of Town Council presented recipients with a certificate and a token of appreciation – a photograph of the Town by local photographer, Dana Nickerson.

Recipients were from various Grand Bay-Westfield Agencies, Boards, Commissions, Committees, Departments and Organizations, including:

Age-Friendly Committee;
Community Vitality Committee;
Emergency Management Organization;
Fire-Rescue Department;
Naming Committee;
Planning Advisory Committee;
Regional Facility Commissions;
Sculpture Saint John Symposium;
Various community groups including sports, arts, recreation, culture, schools and places of worship.

This Celebration also recognized five (5) individuals with a Mayor’s Milestone Volunteer Award. This inaugural award was established by Mayor Merrifield to acknowledge volunteers who have committed over twenty years of service to the community.

Recipients include:

Debbie Childs McCluskey;
Brenda Graham;
Barb Thomas;
Keith Thomas; and
John Webber.

Due to a surgery, Mayor Merrifield was unable to attend this Celebration – see link below to a pre-recorded video message from Mayor Merrifield.

“The Town recognizes the contributions volunteers make towards our vision of A welcoming place for all to live, grow and thrive. Volunteers are an important part of the fabric of this community.” –  Mayor Brittany Merrifield.

On behalf of Town Council, Administration, and the entire community – Thank you, to our volunteers.

We applaud you, for all that you do.
