Town Council and Local Service District (LSD) Transition Committee Representatives approve naming process of Entity 51

Published February 17, 2022 @ 8:30 p.m.

As a result of the modernization of New Brunswick’s local governance system, the neighbouring communities of Grand Bay-Westfield and a portion of the Local Service District (LSD) of Westfield West will be amalgamated. Until a new community name is determined, these two communities are known as Entity 51.

At a Special Council meeting on February 17, 2022, Town Council and LSD Transition Committee Representatives approved the naming process for Entity 51. View the meeting including an outline of the naming process provided by John Enns-Wind, Town Chief Administrative Officer here.

Town Council and LSD Transition Committee Representatives discussed how critical it is for residents from both communities to be involved in the naming process of Entity 51 and to have their fair say. Residents from both communities will have the opportunity to participate in the naming process with more information to be shared in the coming weeks. The first step is to establish the Naming Committee of Entity 51, please see details below.

“The naming of Entity 51 is a very important decision. Residents need to have a name that they can collectively identify with as a new community. Entity 51 has the opportunity to develop a new name to promote unity and new beginnings.” – Mayor Brittany Merrifield, Town of Grand Bay-Westfield.

“This is a really great first step to bring our communities together” – Shelly Totton, LSD Transition Committee Representative.

“I am hoping that everyone gets involved in the naming process, including the younger generation” – Louis Gigou, LSD Transition Committee Representative.
