Grand Bay-Westfield Volunteer Fire-Rescue Department responds to fatal house fire

December 19, 2023 (GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD, NB)

On December 19, 2023 at approximately 1:45 a.m., Grand Bay-Westfield Volunteer Fire-Rescue Department, RCMP and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to a residential structure fire, with reports of a person inside the home, in the 200-block of Highland Road, Grand Bay-Westfield.

Upon arrival, the home was heavily involved in fire. Twenty-nine firefighters were on scene for approximately five hours.

Sadly, the body of an 80-year-old woman was located in the home.

The Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted to attend, and a member of the Coroner’s Office is assisting with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, however, the fire is not considered suspicious at this time.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.
